Asian American Action Fund Endorses Delegate Kathy Tran for Re-election

The Asian American Action Fund announced today its endorsement of Delegate Kathy Tran for re-election to the 42 District in the Virginia House of Delegates.

“We’re proud to endorse VA State Rep. Kathy Tran in her re-election bid for Virginia’s 42nd House District,” said AAAFund Board Member Caroline Fan. “A long time advocate of immigrant rights, the AAAFund is excited to support Rep. Tran and her goals of strengthening the AAPI community. Rep. Tran has devoted her career to ensuring that all working families have the opportunity to achieve the American Dream. It is without doubt that Rep. Tran has the perspective and understanding of the needs of the Asian American community as the first Vietnamese American woman in the Virginia General Assembly. ”

“I’m proud to earn the support of the Asian American Action Fund and look forward to working with them to increase opportunities for every Virginian,” said Tran. “We made so much progress in my first term, like expanding Medicaid and giving teachers a pay raise. But we have more work to do. I’m running for re-election to continue fighting for affordable health care, a better education for our kids, and to create an environment where everyone has a fair shot at achieving the American Dream.”

Kathy Tran represents the 42nd District in the Virginia House of Delegates. Tran’s parents fled Vietnam as boat refugees when she was just an infant. She is the first Vietnamese American, and one of the first Asian American women, to be elected to the Virginia General Assembly.

“The AAAFund is excited to be endorsing VA State Rep. Kathy Tran. We believe that Rep. Tran has what it takes to cater and elevate the AAPI community in Virginia’s 42nd House District. Her unwavering devotion to providing accessible healthcare increasing teacher’s salaries, and addressing climate change. Rep. Kathy’s efforts in pushing for the civil rights and democracy of the Asian American community and immigrants is a cause that the AAAFund stands strongly by,” said AAAFund Board Member Irene Lin.

During her first term in office, she helped expand Medicaid to 400,000 Virginians, advanced redistricting reform, and increased teacher pay. This last session alone, she passed bills to fight climate change, improve access to oral health care, and create a more welcoming Virginia. Tran and her husband Matt live in Fairfax County with their four children, Daven, Charlotte, Quinn, and Elise.
