Meet our Summer Media Intern YaYa Sun!

YaYa Sun recently graduated from the University of Michigan with a bachelor’s degree in Political Science and International Studies. In her free time, YaYa likes to cook, listen to podcasts, watch vlogs and exploring the city.

During her time as the summer media intern, YaYa worked on a variety of projects to increase outreach and online engagement. She managed and created social media content on our Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook. She created and ran digital publicity for the annual AAAFund reception and career panel event. YaYa published blog posts about a Senate hearing, an EMILY’s List training, and the importance of representation in this moment of Crazy Rich Asians fever. She also compiled a research document highlighting the current issues of immigration.

Although much of her internship was virtual, she was able to attend an EMILY’s List Run to Win training, where she documented her experience in a blog on our website. At the training, she was chosen by her tablemates to give her elevator pitch on why she wanted to run for office. During her pitch, she expressed the importance of intersectionality of identities and the continued importance of diversity.

YaYa recently began an AmeriCorps VISTA position in Chicago with Lawyers’ Committee for Better Housing. She is excited to volunteer with the AAPI community there. We wish her the best of luck and thank her for all her hard work!
