Asian American Action Fund Board Endorses Nevada As First in the Nation Primary
Diverse Battleground State is Home to a Rapidly Growing AAPI Electorate

July 26, 2022, WASHINGTON, DC – Today, the Asian American Action Fund (AAAFund) announced its strong support for Nevada, a state with a significant Asian Americans and Pacific Islander (AAPI) population, in its bid to host the First in the Nation presidential primary in 2024 and beyond. The Democratic National Committee’s Rules and Bylaws Committee will soon decide on potential changes to the order of early states in the primary.
The Board of the Asian American Action Fund released the following statement:
“It’s time for a diverse state like Nevada to make its voice heard at the very beginning of our party’s process to pick future presidential nominees. Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders are the fastest-growing voting bloc in the country, and Nevada is the only contender fighting to hold the first primary that is home to a significant population of AAPI voters. With Nevada kicking off the early window, presidential candidates and their teams will better understand how to organize within AAPI communities and talk to voters from all different backgrounds, putting us in an even stronger position to build a winning coalition for the White House.”
Background:
Nevada is a majority-minority state that ranks third in the country in diversity based on the Census Bureau’s 2020 diversity index. Nevada’s AAPI electorate has grown to 11% of the state, rising dramatically over the past two decades. Nationally, the AAPI community has become the fastest-growing racial or ethnic group in the U.S. electorate, with the ability to decide elections in key states.
