Chapters

We extend our impact to the local level through AAAFund chapters around the country. Our chapters are our local ears on the ground and the frontline of our capacity-building and political engagement work.

Through our chapters, we identify and support candidates for local, state, and federal office, raise money for endorsees, and engage local communities in canvassing, phone banking, and outreach via ethnic, social and mainstream media.

  • Founded in a matter of hours, AAAFund-Georgia exploded onto the state’s political scene to channel the sky-high energy behind Reverend Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff’s U.S. Senate campaigns in 2020. The chapter went on to establish itself as a key AAPI outreach partner to Georgia progressives and solidified the AAPI community’s vote as the margin of difference.

Since their successful 2020 cycle, the chapter supports AAPI civic engagement, advocates for AAPI representation and issues at the state level, and gears up for competitive statewide elections every cycle. In response to the Atlanta-area mass shooting of Asian women, AAAFund-Georgia grew into its leadership role in the AAPI community, speaking out at Stop Asian Hate rallies, attending solidarity events, and participating in advocacy and community actions to push for gun law reform.

AAPIs make up 4.1% of all of Georgia’s population and two-thirds of the AAPI population are citizens, eligible to vote. AAPIs are the margin of victory vote and the Georgia Chapter will continue to build AAPI political power in Georgia and elect progressive leaders who will serve the AAPI community.

  • AAAFund’s oldest chapter, the Virginia Chapter, was founded by Rose Chu to empower Virginia’s growing AAPI community to engage in local politics and elect Democratic candidates committed to the community. Focusing on voter registration, education, and outreach, AAAFund-Virginia encourages all Asian Americans to take action and participate at all levels of the Democratic Party.

The AAAFund Virginia Chapter has modeled the local impact of a trusted cultural broker for candidates for political office. Over the years, their activities have included sponsoring Asian American fundraisers for gubernatorial campaigns, spearheading outreach to the AAPI community through some of the first in-language and ethnic media ads, and participating in phone banking, literature drops, and visibility events at Asian grocery stores.

Today, the AAA-Fund Virginia Chapter also sponsors happy hours in Arlington and plans voter registration and visibility events. For more information, contact Rose Chu at rccmason@gmail.com or call 703 998-5539.

  • The mission of the Asian American Action Fund California Chapter is to encourage and empower AAPI Democrats to participate in the political process. Despite the significant AAPI population in the Golden State, our community still struggles with adequate representation in the political life of this state.

AAAFund-California focuses on local and state elections, seeking to maximize its impact by supporting county and municipal campaigns. In recent election cycles, AAAFund-California played key roles in the election of Santa Clara County Supervisor Otto Lee’s victory, the successful ballot initiative introducing ranked choice voting to the City of Albany and supported Assemblyman Rob Bonta’s appointment to California Attorney General.

With the rising tide of anti-Asian violence throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, AAAFund-CA pivoted to coalition building and advocacy to combat anti-Asian hate and supporting A.G. Bonta’s re-election campaign.

  • Founded by Dr. Jeffrey Roh, the Seattle Chapter of AAAFund provides the exploding population of AAPIs in the metropolitan area with a trusted partner in local politics. The Seattle Chapter has successfully supported several exciting candidates for local office, from Port Commissioner to State Representatives. Through this work, the Seattle Chapter has built strong connections and relationships with major political players in Washington State, growing the influence of the AAPI community.

  • Co-founded in 2017 by Mala Patel and Dr. Lisa Kuan, Tri-State AAAFund has grown into a small but mighty team dedicated to engaging the Cincinnati area community in local politics.

Formed during the 2017 Women’s March, the chapter focuses on electing Democratic candidates committed to the AAPI community, educating AAPIs on local political engagement, and reforming the state and local justice system. Their efforts have led to concrete local impact, changing the judicial landscape in Ohio and electing Cincinnati’s first AAPI mayor.

Partners

The AAAFund also collaborates with national organizations that share our values and political goals, including the AAPI Victory Fund, EMILY’s List, Planned Parenthood, and the National Education Association, among others. Through these mutually supportive relationships, we bring AANHPI priorities to the table in discussions with these influential organizations, while advancing other intersectional progressive causes that reflect our values.
