Statement by the Board of the Asian American Action Fund on the mass shooting in Indianapolis

Statement by the Board of the Asian American Action Fund on the mass shooting in Indianapolis

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

As a board, we are unified in our sorrow and anger over the mass murder at an Indianapolis area FedEx facility that resulted in 8 deaths, including 4 Sikh Americans.

We grieve for Matthew Alexander, Samaria Blackwell, Amarjeet Johal, Jasvinder Kaur, Jaswinder Singh, Amarjit Sekhon, Karli Smith, John Weisert, and their loved ones.

We are outraged that gun violence continues unabated in America, and that the Sikh American community has suffered through the Oak Creek, WI gurdwara mass hate crime shootings, dozens of other violent acts of hate since the 9/11 attacks, and now this. We call for state and federal investigations into the gunman’s actions and motivations, speedy passage of the Hirono-Meng Covid-19 Hate Crimes Act, and meaningful gun sense reform.
