AAAFund endorses Terry McAuliffe for Virginia Governor

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

August 23, 2021, WASHINGTON, DC –The Board of the Asian American Action Fund (AAAFund) voted unanimously to endorse Democratic nominee Terry McAuliffe for Governor of Virginia.

In his previous service, Gov. McAuliffe proved himself both a stellar, progressive executive and a staunch ally to the growing AAPI community of Virginia. His record demonstrates a commitment to diversity, inclusion, and justice: he vetoed anti-immigrant legislation, worked to support and protect undocumented students, and restored voting rights to Virginians previously convicted of felonies. Since then, Gov. McAuliffe has built a broad coalition of diverse organizations and leaders across racial lines and spoken out against anti-Asian violence.

“As we continue to see ourselves through one of the toughest moments in our nation’s history, we will need to go big and be bold to lift up all Virginia families and create an economy in which everyone can thrive,” said Terry McAuliffe. “That means spurring growth of businesses both big and small, creating good paying jobs and building an equitable education system. We must also make sure Virginia remains open and welcoming to all. I stand with the AAA Fund and the larger AAPI community in continuing that pursuit.”

“Virginians know and trust Terry McAuliffe to do right by us. He oversaw the start of a historic Democratic shift in Virginia politics and led with progressive politics that built a fairer economy, a more welcoming community, and a more just civil society. The Commonwealth’s future lies in the united strength of all its communities and Gov. McAuliffe is the only candidate running to represent and uplift this Virginia,” said Rose Chu, President of AAAFund-Virginia. “Terry will continue to fight for quality affordable health care, a world-class education for every Virginia child and a clean energy economy.”
